How to Install and Configure VMware ESXi for SynetoOS

The installation requires the entire physical host to be rebooted

PREREQUISITES

IPMI: ensure you have access to the IPMI interface for remote management;
ISOs: Make sure to download the correct VMware ESXi Vanilla ISO variant for your deployment;needs
 

IMPORTANT
Ensure the Boot Mode is configured to either Legacy or Dual before proceeding

 

Step 1. Set the IPMI session timeout to 0 ("How to Set the IPMI Session Timeout to 0")

Step 2. Erase partitions and data from disks ("How to Erase Disks Before Installing ESXi on Bare Metal Servers with GParted")

Step 3. Mount the VMware ESXi ISO from IPMI ("How to Mount an ISO via IPMI")

Step 4. From the boot menu, select the Virtual CDROM with the mounted VMware ESXi ISO


Step 5. Wait for VMware ESXi installation to finish (about 1 hour)

Once the process is complete, enter the BIOS settings again and switch the Boot Mode back to UEFI.

Step 6. Install Syneto required VIBs via ESXi ("Updates")

To install the required Syneto VIBs, apply an update package from the link above by selecting either your current ESXi version (to re-apply it) or the next available one.

 

Step 7. Configure VMware ESXi ("How to Configure Networking and System Tuning for a Syneto HC Environment in VMware ESXi")
