How to Solve the "Convert Virtual Machine Failed at Step 3 – Error Encountered while Communicating with Syneto Storage Service" in Hyperion

Symptom

In some cases, the virtual machine's filesystem may be in an inconsistent state. This can occur if the VM was not properly shut down (e.g., it was still running or was abruptly powered off), or if Windows Hibernation or Fast Startup features are enabled.

 

Solution

Step 1. Login to SynetoOS GUI (replace <your_ip_address_or_hostname> with the correct information)

Step 2. Click on Cleanup from the up - right corner

 

Step 3. Power on the (cloned) virtual machine

Step 4. Shutdown the guest OS

Ensure that it’s a “clean” shutdown, no Windows updates to apply, etc.

 

Step 5. Click Convert to Hyperion again

If error persists, retry the steps above.
If the problem is not fixed, open a ticket for the support team.
