Written By Christian Castagna (Administrator)

Updated at May 6th, 2025

This update is for HYPER Core systems running OS 5, HYPER Edge G2, HYPER Echo G1 and G2, and for Syneto Virtual Appliance.

Upgrading to this release will not require a reboot if the system is running on 5.4.1 version branch. Reboot is required when upgrading from 5.3.2 and older versions.

Introduction

This update improves the efficiency of the upgrade, paving the way for a seamless transition to SynetoOS 6.

New Features

The biggest changes in this version improve your UX with appliance activation, monitoring & alerting, and how the appliances interact with Central. There are numerous improvements aimed at supporting our OS4-OS5 migration initiative. Also, under the hood, there are multiple improvements that enable the upgradability from Syneto OS5 to Syneto OS6.

Resolved Issues

Syneto Central

  • Improved the UX of adding firewall rules in Quick Setup/Central activation.

  • Fixed an intermittent issue preventing users from re-linking the machine to Central.

  • Improved error message clarity when the system cannot reach Central.

  • Fixed a bug causing the Activation to fail without obvious reasons in some edge cases.

  • Improved how the system downloads packages during the installation for better UX in Firewall-Restricted Client networks.

Protection

  • Fixed an issue preventing the user from protecting a VM if the underlying storage pool is degraded.

WebUI

  • Added a validation to the Create Pool modal to prevent users from creating 1-disk pools.

  • Improved data display at the Online Services page in Quick Setup.

Monitoring & Alerting

  • Improved the Alerts email template to properly show the resolved Alerts.

  • Improved the monitoring and alerting mechanism for SSDs attached directly to ESXi and JBODs.

  • Improved the email notification informativeness.

  • Improved component-specific alerting for Dell systems.

  • Improved the alerting mechanism to prevent it from sending false component-specific alerts.

Known Issues

  • Uploading a file to Image Repository can get stuck if there is no space on the storage pool.

  • In some scenarios user may not be able to remove a Granular File Recovery ISO mount from the UI.

  • Granular File Recovery does not work with NTFS with deduplication enabled.

  • Canceling a task does not cancel a sleeping subtask, which may re-appear in 2 hours.

  • Replication Target is not be visible in the UI on the primary system if the replication target system does not allow SSH access.
