This update is for HYPER Core systems, HYPER Edge, HYPER Echo and Syneto Virtual Appliance running SynetoOS 6.
Upgrading to this release does not require a reboot when upgrading from releases newer than 6.0.0.6486 (including 6.0.0.6737, 6.0.0.6752, 6.0.0.6756, 6.0.0.6795).
After a reboot, the administrator will be prompted to re-enter the local hypervisor credentials.
Introduction
This update improves licensing management, monitoring reliability, virtual machine handling, and system stability, delivering a more robust and polished SynetoOS 6 experience.
New Features
Licensing and Add-ons
This release introduces support for licensing of software-only products, expanding flexibility for non-hardware-based deployments. As part of this evolution, the Add-ons section has been renamed to Licenses, providing a clearer and more consistent experience. In addition, tiered licenses now explicitly display their associated tier, making license entitlements easier to understand and manage.
Monitoring and Serenity
Alert notifications have been improved with clearer and more informative subject lines and message bodies, making it easier to quickly identify issues. Monitoring coverage has been expanded with new alerts that track the health of additional internal services. All timestamps are now consistently reported using the system’s configured timezone, improving readability and correlation with system events.
VM Management
Virtual machine management has been enhanced to improve visibility and usability. The Guest OS Tools CD-ROM can now be mounted even when the tools are already installed inside the guest operating system. VM details pages now clearly display the configured RAM and CPU resources. On HYPER systems, the local hypervisor is automatically identified and labeled as “local” in the Hypervisors page. VM state refresh operations are also significantly faster when the system is connected to three or more VMware servers.
VM Migrations (Import, Convert, Migrate)
The VM migration workflow has been refined to improve reliability and clarity. During Windows VM conversions, the virtio display adapter driver is now installed automatically on Hyperion systems. Import operations are more resilient and can complete successfully even when virtual network interfaces are not correctly defined in the source .vmx file. Additionally, the convert process now clearly communicates that only IDE drives are supported, with SATA drives requiring manual reconfiguration after the conversion.
Software Update
The software update process has been made more robust and transparent. The upgrade button is now automatically disabled when DNS resolution or external services are unavailable, preventing failed upgrade attempts. Download retries for remote packages have been improved, increasing reliability in unstable network conditions. Timestamps have also been added to the software upgrade progress log located at /tmp/software_upgrade_progress.log, making troubleshooting and auditing easier.
Protection & Recovery
Several improvements enhance data protection and recovery workflows. The Recovery tab calendar now features improved color contrast for better readability. Replication targets can be configured with a shorter retention period than the source system, allowing more flexible retention strategies. VM details now display a replica icon when a virtual machine is cloned from a replica. To prevent unsupported configurations, replication targets running on SynetoOS 5 are now blocked. Error messages shown when replication fails due to insufficient storage on the destination have also been clarified to better guide corrective actions.
Disks and Pools
Storage pool flexibility has been increased by allowing drives with different block sizes to coexist within the same pool, simplifying hardware expansion and replacement scenarios.
System
The system now proactively checks the reachability of configured DNS servers and displays a dedicated warning for each DNS server that cannot be reached, helping administrators identify connectivity issues before they impact operations.
