WARNING: VM reboot is required
This article helps to solve the issue of the system "freeze" when SynetoOS takes an app-consistent snapshot.
By default, VMware Tools has VSS enabled in its installer and requires a small "freeze" or "stun" to take a consistent snapshot.
The following steps will disable the VSS implemented in VMware and enable the VSS built into Windows which does not "freeze" the system.
Step 1. Login to SynetoOS 4 GUI (replace <your_ip_address_or_hostname> with the correct ip/hostname)
https://<your_ip_address_or_hostname>
Step 2. From the left menu, click on Datastores
Step 3. Click on Protection
Step 4. Disable Protection
Step 5. Connect to Windows VM
Step 6. Run services.msc and find the Volume Shadow Copy
Right click on it and select Properties
Step 7. Select Startup type = Automatic
Step 8. Access the installed programs from Windows control panel
Step 9. Identify VMware Tools and click on Modify
Step 10. Disable parameters as shown in the following screenshot
Step 11. Reboot Windows VM
Step 12. Re-nable Protection on SynetoOS 4
