This article explains how enabling BitLocker on a VM can impact the Granular File Recovery (GFR) feature in SynetoOS and provides alternative solutions for data recovery.
Granular File Recovery (GFR) is a SynetoOS feature that allows you to restore individual files or folders from a restore point created for protected VMs. However, when BitLocker is enabled on a VM, the data is encrypted, preventing GFR from accessing the files and performing granular recovery.
The only alternative solution for data recovery is to clone the encrypted disk and manually extract the required data from the clone.
Step 1. Clone the VM ("How to clone a VM from a snapshot in SynetoOS 4")
IMPORTANT
When cloning the VM, if it is already in production and you need to power it on to recover one or more files, it is recommended to disconnect the network adapter to avoid affecting the production environment.
Step 2. Manually extract the desired files
