PREREQUISITES

To properly expand the pool, there must be free space available for adding new data.

Additionally, one of the following two prerequisites must be met (depending on the platform type):

  • Syneto HYPER device: Make sure there are free drive bays. The device must be powered off and the new drives inserted, after which they will be used to expand the existing pool.

  • SynetoOS Virtual Appliance (VA): The SynetoOS VM must be stopped, a new VMDK of the desired size must be created, and this must be attached to the SynetoOS VM.

After completing one of the two operations depending on the type of platform, you need to turn on the system and proceed with the following steps.

Step 1. Login to SynetoOS GUI (replace <your_ip_address_or_hostname> with the correct ip/hostname)

https://<your_ip_address_or_hostname>

Step 2. From System menu, click on Drives

Step 3. Click on Rescan button

Step 4. Select the Unused disk

Step 5. From System menu, click on Pools

Step 6. Select the pool, then click on Structure and Expand

Step 7. Click on Add button

Step 8. Select the Unused disk, then click on Add

Step 9. Click on Expand

Wait for the operation to finish.
