Riello UPS with the Netman 204 network adapter, allows VMs and the server to be shut down and started up in an orderly manner in the event of a power failure. The Netman 204 can be configured to connect to the VMware ESXi hypervisor and perform various actions in the event of a power failure or restoration.

Syneto HYPER appliances have autostart feature enabled by default on the ESXi hypervisor.

This is a mandatory prerequisite to ensure VMs can be powered on and off in the right order, when the request is made from Netman 204.

Configure ESXi User & Role for Remote Power Management

Step 1. Create a new Role (Host → Security and Users → Roles)

Step 2. Click on Add Role (Root → Host → Config → Power)

Step 3. Click on Add Role (Root → VirtualMachine → Interact → PowerOn, PowerOff - Call it for example ups)

Step 4. Assign the role PowerMgmt to the newly created user ups on the ESXi host (Host → Actions → Permissions)

Step 5. Click on Add user to assign the user and the role to the ESXi host

Step 6. Type the username in the field, select the appropriate role for power management

Click Add user. You have now setup a user which can be used for power management on the ESXi host.
