Symptom

After upgrading a Windows VM, the machine fails to boot and cannot find the vmdk disks.

Solution

Step 1. Login to VMware ESXi GUI

Step 2. Power off the VM that doesn't start

Step 3. Access the VM panel, select the VM and press “Edit”

Step 4. Click on VM Options

Step 5. Click on Boot Options

Step 6. Uncheck Enable UEFI secure boot and click on Save

Step 7. Power on the VM
