→ Applies to: Hyperion 9.x and above
PREREQUISITES
- Make sure the virtual machine is properly shut down before starting the conversion process.
- Verify that the version of the virtual machine you intend to convert to Syneto Hyperion is compatible (as shown in the table below). If the version is not listed, the conversion will not work properly.
- Virtual machines configured with a custom guest OS may not use the standard GRUB bootloader and compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
- Virtual machines with disks connected via IDE controller are not supported during conversion. The .vmx configuration file must be edited to reassign all IDE-connected disks to a SCSI controller before proceeding.
IMPORTANT
Make sure the VM in ESXi is not configured with “Enable UEFI Secure Boot”.
Go to [ Advanced → Boot Options → Enable UEFI Secure Boot ] and make sure the option is unchecked.

NOTE
Even if the conversion fails due to an unsupported version, you can still install that OS version on Syneto Hyperion as a new VM. In this case, the VM will function properly.
Step 1. Login to SynetoOS GUI
https://<your_ip_address_or_hostname>
Step 2. From Virtualization menu, click on Hypervisors

Step 3. Select the VMware ESXi VM you want to convert into a Syneto Hyperion VM

Step 4. In the top right corner, click on the three dots and then on Convert to Hyperion

The system will create a new VM (the converted VM) with the same name, without the UNREGISTERED icon.
Step 5 (optional). Troubleshooting VM conversion ("How to Solve the "Convert Virtual Machine Failed at Step 3 – Error Encountered while Communicating with Syneto Storage Service" in Hyperion")
Step 6. Register the converted VM (“How to Register a VM in SynetoOS 6”)
Step 7 (optional). Power-on the converted Hyperion VM
At the first power on, the system will install the VirtIO drivers. Several reboots of the guest VM may occur during the driver installation.
