By default, SynetoOS 5 is not automatically connected to the local VMware ESXi hypervisor. The connection must be manually performed, creating a custom ESXi user with the same root permissions.

The connection to the local ESXi hypervisor is always performed through the internel IP address 172.16.254.1.

Create a custom ESXi user

Step 1. Create a new user in VMware ESXi, to be used exclusively by SynetoOS

The username must be unique.
A suggested format could be: “syn-<8-random-numbers>” (e.g. syn-47226178)

Step 2. Assign the newly created user the administrator role

Connect to the local hypervisor

Step 1. Enter the Hosts section from the left menu os SynetoOS GUI

Step 2. Click on Add Vmware server button in the top right corner

Step 3. Fill in Address, Username and Password fields

Address: to connect to the local hypervisor (running on the same appliance) use the IP address 172.16.254.1.
Username: the username previously created
Password: the password previously assigned

Step 4. Click Add button to finalize the connection to the local ESXi hypervisor
