A reboot is required only when upgrading from versions earlier than SynetoOS 6.0.3. Upgrading from SynetoOS 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 does not require a reboot.

SynetoOS 6.0.5 is a maintenance release focused on improving platform stability, with enhanced reliability across software upgrades, storage management, virtualization and data protection.

Introduction

SynetoOS 6.0.5 is a maintenance release focused on improving the stability of the platform. Multiple improvements increase the reliability of software upgrades, storage management, virtualization and data protection capabilities. This release also enables the upgrade to Preview releases.
 

New Features

Software Update

Systems enrolled in the Preview program can now see both Preview and Stable releases on the Software Updates page when available. Preview versions are released ahead of the Stable (GA) build, allowing users to evaluate new functionality before it becomes generally available

Data Protection

Replications to a destination without enough free space now stop with a clear error message instead of retrying later.

Virtualization

VM operations such as migrations are now more reliable when storage is under heavy write load. The internal timeout for storage operations has been raised from 10 to 30 seconds and is now configurable.

Installation and Migration

The survey script used to prepare migrations from SynetoOS 4 now stops and reports any VM whose disks are spread across multiple datasets or datastores, as these VMs cannot be migrated correctly.

Resolved Issues

Software Update

• Fixed an issue where upgrades could fail at the very beginning, during the Cleaning up Edge cluster step, with the message "Update requires assistance". This was more likely on appliances that had been in service for a long time.
• Fixed an issue where an upgrade could be reported as failed when the system was slow to respond after the update, for example when a configured DNS server did not answer.
• Fixed an issue where upgrades installed many optional packages (around 870 MB). Only the essential packages required by SynetoOS are now installed.
• Fixed an issue where, after upgrading from SynetoOS 5, some system services such as the web server and the NFS server might not start automatically after a reboot.

Storage Management

• Fixed an issue where periodic write bursts on the storage pool could cause short freezes of VMs running on NFS datastores. An unused storage component that scanned all disks every five minutes has been disabled.
• Fixed an issue where, in rare cases, storage pools were not imported automatically at boot. Upgrades now make sure the services responsible for importing pools are enabled.

Data Protection

• Fixed an issue where some valid recovery points, typically the oldest daily and weekly ones, were removed before the retention period set in the SLA policy had expired.
• Fixed an issue where, when the destination pool of a replication no longer existed, the SLA policy dialog showed the rule as Do not replicate and saving the policy silently removed the replication. The dialog now shows the missing pool and asks for a new one to be selected.
• Fixed an issue where removing more than one replication rule at once failed to update the SLA policy.
• Fixed an issue where a task waiting to retry, such as a failed replication, could not be cancelled and remained in Cancelling for up to two hours.
• Fixed an issue where, when recovering files from a recovery point, the list of selected files and folders did not always match the actual selection.

Virtualization

• Fixed an issue where a Hyperion VM copied, restored or migrated to a system with a different CPU generation failed to power on with the error "guest CPU doesn't match specification".
• Fixed an issue where, after an ESXi host was rebooted or upgraded, SynetoOS could not create VMs or volumes on that host until the hypervisor credentials were entered again. The connection now recovers automatically.
• Fixed an issue where editing some VMs imported from Hyper-V failed with the error "Can't shrink capacity below current capacity".
• Fixed an issue where converting a VM did not rename it, even though the user was informed that it would be renamed.

Installation and Migration

• Fixed an issue where, during the installation of a hyperconverged system, an incorrect hypervisor password was retried for up to five minutes, which could trigger the account lockout policy. The installer now stops immediately with a clear error message.
